Here’s some great freebie information for you. If you have ever wanted to have truly portable power, here is how you can do it.

This is 120 volt regular AC electricity that you can take anywhere. The whole job is DIY and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

To make truly portable power – and no generator and fuel is required here – this is all you need.

Buy yourself one of those handy little two wheeled dollies. That will let you move your personal power system anywhere you like.

Next up is a deep cycle battery. Get a decent quality 12 volt battery with a high amp rating. This is what will be holding the electricity for you.

Next up is a small inverter. The size of the inverter will control what you can run from your battery. Since it isn’t practical to try and run heavy use items from a single battery, something in the order of 1,000 watts should do the job. Less will also be quite satisfactory, but a higher rated inverter will usually be of better quality. This is what will convert the 12 volts DC over to 120 volts AC power.

Finally, you will want to make your own solar panel. This is where the big savings come into play. A commercial solar panel in the 64 to 80 watt range is likely to cost $400 to $500. You can build your own panel for about $1 per watt. So the cost savings here are substantial.

Let’s do a quick tally. The carts are available for about $30, a decent battery will run $80 or so and the panel will be around another $80. I spotted a 1,000 watt inverter at one of our big box stores last week for $79, which gives us an all up cost of $270. Let’s call it $300 by the time you have added the small amount of wire necessary.

There are commercially made units available similar to the above, which start at $700. You can see that this handy little gadget can be made for much less. It is the handiest thing when you want quiet power for lighting if you are camping out in the boonies.

The only help you will need for this is how to build the panel itself. You can find this out by looking right here.

Keith Elliott has been using solar power for over a decade. He is always interested in concocting anything which makes use of the sun for power.
